Membership Fees & Utilisation Rates

There is a fixed annual membership fee payable yearly in advance for a minimum term of 1 year.

For each hour flown there is an hourly rate (dry) per block hour which is charged to the nearest minute.

Minimum utilisation for touring (taking the aircraft away) is 3 hours per day.

Positioning to other airports will be at rate card cost (for the aircraft) + £50 per hour actual time (for the pilot) away from Lydd plus any other direct costs such as landing or navigation, ground transport, out of pocket expenses etc.

Please consult the accompanying rate card for current charges.

Economic Advantage

A typical private aviator may fly as many as 50 hours per year, but this would be a high figure and most will probably be doing well at half this amount.

Valuing the Bonanza at £150,000 and the Baron at £200,000, annual fixed costs of ownership are estimated to be:

Annual Fixed Costs (£) Bonanza Baron
Cost of Capital (7%) 10,500 14,000
Insurance 4,500 5,600
Depreciation (5%) 7,500 10,000
Hangarage 4,000 6,000
Annual Engineering 3,000 5,000
CAA 500 700
Total 30,000 41,300

The average owner is probably paying in excess of £1,000 per hour before starting off on his first trip. When considering the additional problems associated with low aircraft utilisation, the argument for sole ownership starts to dwindle rapidly.
